Third annual Women of the Earth Awards in Canada

For the third time in Canada, three women will be honoured with the Women of the Earth Awards. Whether it is a simple project like creating a community garden or a program as large-scale as preserving coral reefs, any woman above the age of majority in their province of residence, who is working within an organization and is conducting a program that benefits nature and humanity, is eligible to compete. To do so, one must fill out the Women of the Earth Awards application form below and provide a written and visual detailed description of her program, its accomplishments, funding requirements and long-term prospects, between June 1st and September 30th.

Three Canadian winners will be chosen and awarded cash prizes of $7,000 for 1st place, $5,000 for 2nd place and $3,000 for 3rd place. In March 2008, the winner of the 1st prize will be taken to Paris, France attend the Women of the Earth International Ceremony in Paris, France on International Woman's Day with 1st prize winners from other countries and could win the international prize of 10,000 euros.

About Yves Rocher Foundation
When Yves Rocher founded his company over 40 years ago, he began a life dedicated to respect for women and nature. In 1991, based on the conviction that mankind's ability to live in harmony with nature is the key to its future, stability and happiness, the Yves Rocher Foundation was established with the mission of nurturing and protecting the plant world. The Foundation launched its flagship project in France in 2001 with the Women of the Earth Awards. It honours women who make the world a greener place, lending recognition and financial support to women leading programs that nurture the relationship between nature and humanity. Over the past five years, 95 women throughout the world have been honoured and have received bursaries from the Foundation.

Through the organization’s actions, practical solutions that lead to sustainable management of the oceans are being discovered.

Co-founder and chief executive of the Appalachian Corridor
The mission of this organization is to protect the natural environment of the Appalachian region which extends from the Green Mountains of Vermont to the Saint-François River in the Eastern Townships and consists of vast wooded areas essential to the survival of a number of animal and vegetal species.

Determined to serve nature
President of the Burns Bog Conservation Society
Through awareness activities and an educational program for youths, this organization devotes its efforts to the protection of this precious habitat for wild species.
